Original as Mydasii Latreille 1809. Latreille (1809: 241, 244) apparently stated in the footnotes Midasii and not Mydasii. Osten-Sacken (1895: 345-350) discussed Mydas vs. Midas and adopted Mydas, which was the original spelling. Mydaidae and Mydasidae are often found in the older literature. Bezzi (1903) was the first author who stated the now accepted name Mydidae.
