Specimens available for molecular phylogenetic studies on Apioceridae & Mydidae

The following list provides an overview of species of Apioceridae & Mydidae that are currently available for DNA-sequence analyses, i.e. were collected in 96 % ethanol or similar preservatives. This list is based on material that Torsten Dikow has access to and does not list all species available worldwide. (For reference of which genes and species have already been sequenced and published check the GenBank database).

A number of people contributed to the collecting or organisation of the specimens and I am very grateful for their assistance. These are:

  • Julia Calhau (Universidade de São Paulo & Museo de Zoologia, São Paulo, Brazil)
  • Martin Hauser & Eric Fisher (California State Collection of Arthropods, Sacramento, CA, USA)
  • Shaun Winterton (Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia)
  • David Yeates & Chris Lambkin (Australian National Insect Collection, Canberra, ACT, Australia)
  • Jason Londt (Natal Museum, Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa)
  • Christiane Weirauch (University of California, Riverside, CA, USA)
  • Brian Wiegmann (University of North Carolina, Raleigh, NC, USA)
  • Brian Brown (TIGER project, Los Angeles County Museum, Los Angeles, CA, USA)
  • Daniele Birtele (Centro Nazionale per lo Studio de la Conservazione della Biodiversita Forestale, Marmirolo, Italy)
  • If you have specimens that could potentially be important for future work please do not hesitate to contact me. I am happy to curate all collections, house and label them appropriately, and make them available to the Asiloidea community. E-mail
